The hazards caused by medical wastewater have also been introduced in previous articles. Here, we will briefly summarize them. During the operation of hospitals, the generation of some direct or indirect infectious, toxic and other hazardous wastewater is inevitable. What the relevant staff need to do is to prevent these wastewater from being discharged directly. They must be tested and treated before being discharged.

What is online monitoring of medical wastewater? What kind of process is it? Let’s take a look with the editor’s instrument.

We know that in addition to a large number of pathogenic organisms such as bacteria and viruses, medical wastewater also contains some chemical agents and radioactive isotopes, etc. Naturally, there are various monitoring items for it!

The daily testing of wastewater from medical institutions is the responsibility of the medical institutions themselves. The inspection items and frequencies must comply with the following requirements:

1.Total residual chlorine: Continuously disinfect the sewage until the water quality meets the disinfection standards. Before discharging, real-time monitoring of total residual chlorine should be conducted at least twice a day, as it can also produce toxic and carcinogenic substances.

2.The relative cycle of coliform bacteria this month is longer than that of total residual chlorine. It should be monitored at least once a month. The monitoring equipment used in this project is called: Coliform Group Online Analyzer.

3.Pathogenic bacteria, which have a longer cycle compared to coliform bacteria, should be monitored at least twice a year. The main tests are for Salmonella and Shigella, and then tuberculosis medical institutions need to test for Mycobacterium tuberculosis.

Each department should do a good job in online monitoring of medical wastewater and also carry out preventive supervision over the sewage treatment facilities of medical institutions. As for the monitoring frequency, it can be determined according to the situation of the hospital. It is essential to ensure that the water quality can be safely discharged!
