The issue of medical wastewater discharge within hospitals must be taken seriously, especially since the outbreak of the epidemic at the end of 2019. Relevant departments have made the coliform bacteria and total residual chlorine standards in hospital wastewater key testing items. In this chapter, we previously explored three principle issues related to the fixed-point monitoring of medical wastewater. The specific situation is as follows:
Hospitals must ensure that medical wastewater is thoroughly disinfected and discharged up to standard to guarantee environmental safety!
1.Adhering to the principle of installing as much as possible, accelerate the construction of the two types of equipment, namely the total residual chlorine online analyzerand the coliform group online analyzer, within the hospital. To promote the prevention and control of medical wastewater, relevant online water quality monitoring equipment has been installed in a timely manner. In China, hospitals have gradually started real-time supervision of the total residual chlorine index in medical wastewater.
2.It is particularly important to do a good job in the connection work with relevant departments. Whether the total residual chlorine or its indicators are issued, the monitoring data should be connected to the protocol standards, so as to know the connection work of relevant parameters. The online monitoring equipment for medical wastewater is connected to the online monitoring platform of the ecological environment department. The uploaded data is used for daily supervision, achieving the effect of remote monitoring and thus better addressing the issue of medical wastewater.
3.Strengthen the application of data analysis and the issue of joint law enforcement and handling. The established ledgers for the upload of monitoring data of various indicators and related operation management systems can thus play a role in strengthening data analysis. It can be determined whether the data in the wastewater is abnormal or exceeds the standard. This is to ensure the accuracy and real-time nature of the online monitoring data. Once any problem arises, the staff must handle it promptly, identify the cause and deal with it in a timely manner to enhance the efficiency of supervision.
