Optimize Urban-Rural Drinking Water Monitoring for Safe Aquatic Environments
Date:2026-09-22 Browse: 4

To secure stable and reliable drinking water safety in urban and rural regions, it is essential to integrate popularized and efficient drinking water online monitoring technology with water resource protection work. This paper mainly discusses the practical methods and application value of urban and rural Drinking Water Online Monitoring, so as to provide support for improving regional water environment safety management.

In 2022, targeting the daily drinking water hygiene management needs of residents in Changde City, local functional departments launched a full-coverage urban and rural water quality monitoring project. The project has built a complete monitoring network, including 50 monitoring points in urban areas of the city, 42 monitoring points in county towns, and 415 monitoring points in townships, realizing systematic and all-round water quality monitoring coverage of urban and rural drinking water sources and water supply links.

Standardized water quality monitoring is a core link to guarantee drinking water safety, and the application of drinking water online monitoring systems further standardizes the whole process of water quality supervision. The monitoring sampling scope covers source water and secondary water supply facilities such as traditional water tank water supply systems. All monitoring and testing work is carried out in strict accordance with national drinking water sanitary standards, with regular detection of conventional indicators including pH value, water color and total residual chlorine.

Meanwhile, scientific quality control means such as spike recovery testing and blank analysis are adopted in the monitoring process to guarantee the authenticity and validity of monitoring data. The whole monitoring and management work is committed to reducing hidden dangers of water-borne infectious diseases and water pollution risks, continuously optimizing the drinking water safety management system, and effectively protecting public drinking water health and ecological water environment safety.

As an important indicator of water disinfection effect, total residual chlorine is a key detection item in drinking water online monitoring. It refers to the residual chlorine content in water after the contact reaction and consumption in the disinfection process, including free residual chlorine and combined residual chlorine. In actual water supply operation, excessive residual chlorine may induce the production of disinfection by-products with health risks.

For this reason, automatic monitoring equipment represented by the RCl900 Online Total Residual Chlorine Analyzer is widely applied in drinking water online monitoring work. The equipment can accurately detect water quality changes after chlorine disinfection, help staff adjust chlorine dosing dosage scientifically to ensure stable disinfection effect, and realize real-time, continuous and intelligent monitoring of total residual chlorine indicators in drinking water, which greatly improves the refinement and efficiency of urban and rural drinking water safety management.
