The emission standards for medical wastewater mainly refer to the “Standards for the Discharge of Water Pollutants from Medical Institutions” (GB18466-2005), including the residual chlorine standards for hospital wastewater discharge. This standard stipulates the pollutant control items for medical wastewater and sludge, as well as the discharge and control limits, treatment processes and disinfection requirements, sampling and monitoring, and the implementation and supervision of the standards.
Environmental impact assessment, environmental protection facility design, completion acceptance and post-acceptance discharge management for medical institution construction projects. When the wastewater from the office area, non-medical living areas, etc. of the medical institution is collected in a combined manner and discharged, the comprehensive wastewater discharge of the medical institution shall all comply with this standard. Medical institutions with a separate sewage collection system shall discharge the wastewater from the non-disease area living areas in accordance with the relevant provisions of GB8978.
1.For infectious diseases such as tuberculosis, the total residual chlorine in the comprehensive wastewater shall not exceed 0.5mg/L (direct discharge requirement).
1.The control requirements for the process of disinfection using chlorine-containing disinfectants are as follows:
Contact time of the disinfection contact tank ≥ 1.5 hours, total residual chlorine at the outlet of the contact tank 6.5 – 10mg/L
2.For other disinfectants, there are no requirements for the total residual chlorine.
For comprehensive medical institutions and other medical institutions, the total residual chlorine shall not exceed 0.5mg/L (direct discharge requirement), and there are no requirements for indirect discharge.
1.The control requirements for the process of disinfection using chlorine-containing disinfectants are as follows:
Discharge standard: Contact time of the disinfection contact tank ≥ 1 hour, total residual chlorine at the outlet of the contact tank 3 – 10mg/L.
Pre-treatment standard: Contact time of the disinfection contact tank ≥ 1 hour, total residual chlorine at the outlet of the contact tank 2 – 8mg/L.
2.There are no requirements for the total residual chlorine using other disinfectants.
In addition, while disinfecting medical wastewater, it is also necessary to conduct real-time monitoring of it through the RCl900 total residual chlorine online analyzer to ensure the dosage of the disinfectant.
