The chemical industry covers multiple sectors and product categories, including chemical mining, fertilizer production, petrochemical manufacturing, detergent production and more. Wastewater output and pollutant profiles vary significantly across different industries and production processes, bringing diverse adverse effects. Potential harms are listed as follows:
- Discharging untreated industrial wastewater directly into rivers and lakes will cause water pollution. Highly toxic wastewater may lead to mass mortality of aquatic organisms.
