From the current perspective, all issues associated with groundwater evolve slowly. Once groundwater is contaminated, Water Quality Monitoring may take several months or even years to complete. After contamination is confirmed, mitigating the pollution problem will take another several years at a relatively high cost. For this reason, comprehensive monitoring and protection of all underground water sources must be prioritized. This article elaborates on key considerations for the layout of Groundwater Monitoring points.
1.Technicians may adopt the regional monitoring point layout method, and regional groundwater monitoring shall be implemented in accordance with the specifications stipulated in standard DZ/T 0308.
2.Layout of monitoring points within the protection zones and recharge areas of groundwater drinking water sources
1) Monitoring points shall be installed in porous aquifers and weathered fractured aquifers, with the layout density determined by the actual coverage area. For protection and recharge zones of groundwater drinking water sources covering an area of less than 50 square kilometers, no fewer than 7 Online Water Quality Monitoring points shall be deployed. For zones ranging from 50 to 100 square kilometers, a minimum of 10 monitoring points is required. In general, one additional monitoring point shall be added for every extra 25 square kilometers. All monitoring points shall be arranged within the drinking water source protection and recharge areas using the grid layout method.
2) Real-time monitoring of karst groundwater: A minimum of 3 monitoring points shall be arranged along the main karst conduits within the protection and recharge zones of groundwater drinking water sources. Additional monitoring points along branch conduits shall be determined based on the grade and length of such conduits.
3) Water Quality Monitoring in structural fractures: The layout requirements for monitoring points are identical to those for karst groundwater specified in Item 2), and the above provisions shall be followed accordingly.
