What Are the Monitoring Indicators for Medical Institution
Date:2026-02-26 Browse: 4

In fact, the discharge of wastewater from medical institutions has always been an issue that deserves our full attention. For this reason, relevant authorities have established discharge standards for various types of wastewater and sewage, and medical wastewater is no exception. So, for medical institutions, what exactly are the monitoring indicators for medical wastewater?

The regulatory requirements for medical wastewater discharge can be divided into three categories:

1.Wastewater discharge standards for tuberculosis and infectious disease departments (only one set of standard values applies).

2.County-level and above hospitals: must comply with the discharge regulations for general medical institutions and other medical institutions (two sets of standard values: discharge standard and pretreatment standard).

3.Hospitals below county level: medical wastewater must undergo disinfection and sterilization treatment, and various indicators in the wastewater must be monitored in real time; discharge is allowed only after compliance is confirmed.

The main monitoring indicators for medical institution wastewater include conventional parameters such as total phosphorus, total nitrogen, and ammonia nitrogen, as well as monitoring of total residual chlorine and coliform group.

Regarding discharge standards, specific requirements are set for coliform group, intestinal pathogenic bacteria, etc. The pretreatment standard only specifies monitoring requirements for coliform group.

Given the importance of coliform group monitoring, how often should hospitals conduct such tests?

Under normal conditions, regulations require that coliform group be monitored at least once a month. The WECT-900 Online Coliform Analyzer can be used for coliform group detection.

When implementing the discharge standard, the intestinal pathogenic bacteria to be monitored are:

Shigella

Salmonella

Monitoring frequency:

Shigella: at least twice a year

Salmonella: no less than once per quarter

Of course, different hospitals have different scopes of diagnosis and treatment and admit different types of patients. Therefore, the specific parameters to be monitored should be determined based on the actual conditions of each hospital.
