For pharmaceutical factories, monitoring the TOC (Total Organic Carbon) of the water production system is very important. How should the monitoring points be selected? Which points must undergo water quality monitoring? In this chapter, we will learn how to select TOC monitoring points for pharmaceutical factories. The main points to choose from are as follows:
1.Source water: A point is set at the outlet of the source water tank. The purpose is to test the quality of the source water and provide a reasonable basis for system design and maintenance.
2.Water production: Test the quality of the produced water at the outlet of the water production equipment, as TOC mainly comes from the produced water of the self-made water equipment in the subsequent system.
3.Purified water can be divided into two types: point of use and recycled water. Their purposes are respectively: 1) to obtain the true value at the point of use and test the specific water quality at the point of use; 2) In the purification cycle, the total organic carbon of the system is theoretically at its highest point, so it needs to be detected and analyzed.
4.Water for injection: Water for injection can be divided into four points
1) At the water tank inlet, test the quality of the water entering for injection to ensure that the water quality entering the distiller is qualified.
2) At the outlet of the water tank, the TOC (Total Organic Carbon) value here addresses the user point of the injection water circulation, so it is necessary to test the pure water quality entering the injection water distribution circulation.
3) The usage points of water are the same as those of purified water. Test the water quality at the usage points to obtain the true value.
4) Total circulation return, with the same purpose as the three purified water detection points.
5.Before entering the distilled water machine, samples should be taken for testing to ensure that the water quality entering the distilled water machine is safe.
To sum up, in the entire water production system of a pharmaceutical factory, TOC monitoring is required at many points. However, if TOC online analyzers are installed at each point for real-time monitoring, wouldn’t it be a bit too costly? This depends on the specific situation of the pharmaceutical factory. Just conduct key location inspections based on the actual situation.
Among them, the usage points of purified water and water for injection, as well as the outlet of the circulating return water, must be equipped with TOC online monitoring devices. The total organic carbon in the water can be monitored in real time by installing the TOC-8000-TOC online analyzer. This is because the total return water can be said to be a place with very poor water quality in the system, and the water after injection will re-enter the management for circulation. If the TOC content exceeds the standard, it will affect the water quality at the usage point. Therefore, it is particularly important to do a good job in TOC monitoring in the total circulation of the water production system.
Of course, the water point is also a position that must be monitored to ensure that the TOC at the water point meets the standard. As for whether to install online monitoring or offline analysis, it depends on the specific situation of the pharmaceutical factory.
In addition, TOC monitoring is also indispensable at the outlet of the water production equipment and the inlet of the injection water tank. The water from these two places will enter the water storage tank. If it is contaminated, it will directly affect the water quality of the distribution network. If the TOC of these two points exceeds the standard, it can be directly discharged by controlling the valve.
In summary, if a monitoring station is selected, it is the place where the total return is made. However, if conditions permit, it is still recommended to install TOC detection equipment at each point. If any point is not installed, there is a risk of contamination!
