Different levels of water hardness lead to distinct negative impacts. Excessive hardness in industrial wastewater will compromise product quality. High hardness in laboratory water will interfere with experimental test results, while drinking water with excessive hardness will pose potential health risks to the human body. For this reason, in addition to adopting professional water treatment processes to reduce water hardness, it is necessary to install professional water quality detectors at water discharge outlets for real-time monitoring and analysis, so as to ensure the water hardness meets applicable usage standards.
What key points should be noted during the water hardness detection process? The detailed precautions are summarized as follows:
- If the water sample shows strong acidity or alkalinity during detection, neutralize the water sample with 5% sodium hydroxide solution or hydrochloric acid solution first, and then add the buffer solution for subsequent testing.
- If the water sample contains heavy metal substances that interfere with hardness detection, adopt a combined masking method before adding indicators to eliminate interference. The combined masking agent consisting of cysteine hydrochloride solution and triethanolamine solution (1+4) or β-aminoethanethiol can be used. The specific masking reagent and dosage shall be determined according to the type and content of heavy metals in the water sample.
- Select targeted operation and adjustment methods based on the adopted water hardness detection technology, and respond to different test conditions pertinently to ensure accurate detection data.
