Boiler Wastewater Testing – What You Need to Know
Date:2026-02-26 Browse: 4

What is boiler water? Boiler water mainly includes boiler feed water, boiler water inside the boiler, and wastewater to be discharged. So what do you know about boiler wastewater testing? This article will explain boiler wastewater testing with you.

The quality of discharged boiler wastewater depends not only on the discharge volume and method, but also on compliance with discharge requirements, so as to ensure the safety of the discharged water. The specific requirements are as follows:

1.Control the discharge frequency: Simply put, discharge wastewater appropriately and frequently. For bottom blowdown, multiple short‑time discharges are more effective than one long‑time discharge.

2.Reduce the volume per discharge: If you increase the frequency of wastewater discharge, the volume per discharge should be reduced accordingly. This is also a way to control water quality, preventing large fluctuations even in minor incidents.

3.Discharge regularly: Many things in daily life require regularity. That is, the time interval between each wastewater discharge should be roughly the same to maintain stable water quality.

What are the Monitoring Points and Indicators for Boiler Wastewater?

Main monitoring points include the general enterprise wastewater outlet, oncethrough cooling water outlet, desulfurization wastewater outlet, etc. The main monitoring items for these outlets are as follows:

1.General enterprise wastewater outlet: ammonia nitrogen, suspended solids (SS), pH, total phosphorus, fluoride, sulfide, chemical oxygen demand (COD), petroleum substances, volatile phenol.

2.Desulfurization wastewater outlet: pH, total arsenic, total lead, total mercury, total cadmium, flow rate.

3.Circulating cooling water outlet: pH, chemical oxygen demand (COD), total phosphorus, quarterly flow monitoring.

4.Oncethrough cooling water outlet: water temperature, flow rate, total residual chlorine.

During online water quality monitoring, total phosphorus does not need to be monitored if domestic sewage is not discharged into the general outlet. In addition, wastewater other than desulfurization wastewater may be discharged together with other industrial wastewater, provided that relevant industrial monitoring requirements are followed.
