For medical wastewater, the situation is rather complex. There are various infectious viruses and chemical substances that are harmful. These wastewater needs to be disinfected and then undergo medical wastewater monitoring to ensure that all indicators are qualified before being discharged. In this article, we will briefly understand the treatment process of medical wastewater.
In different places, all treatment processes will also be different. With the development of sewage treatment technology, there are many applied processes developed in China. Here, we will simply understand the treatment process of medical wastewater.
After completing the primary treatment, the treated effluent will also enter the comprehensive hospital’s urban sewage treatment plant for secondary treatment. Strengthening the treatment effect is an important task. To increase the SS removal rate, the dosage of disinfectants should be reduced. However, to enhance the effect of the primary treatment, this is what needs to be done! Make the existing primary treatment process undergo renovation work, and then strengthen the removal effect and adopt enhanced treatment technologies. This treatment process flow is for the sewage treatment of general hospitals without infectious wards, which is “pre-treatment – secondary enhanced treatment – disinfection”. At this time, through the method of coagulation and sedimentation, particles carrying viruses, bacteria, etc. can be removed. To improve the disinfection effect and reduce the total dosage of disinfectants, it can avoid the excessive dosage of disinfectants affecting the quality of water. Moreover, for the secondary enhanced treatment process flow, the medical wastewater will pass through the septic tank and then enter the regulating tank. The front part of the regulating tank will be equipped with an automatic grille, and a water pump will be set up in the regulating tank. Once the wastewater is lifted, it will enter the coagulation sedimentation tank for work, and then the effluent will enter the contact tank for disinfection to ensure that the effluent is discharged in compliance with standards.
The Principle of Process Selection for Medical Wastewater Treatment Flow:
1.Infectious hospitals must adopt secondary treatment, and pre-disinfection treatment should also be carried out;
2.The treated effluent is discharged into natural water bodies. For county-level and above hospitals, secondary treatment is more appropriate;
3.If you want to discharge the treated effluent into the urban sewerage system, it is recommended to use secondary treatment. If you adopt the primary treatment process, then the treatment effect must be strengthened. If it is for some economically underdeveloped areas with small general hospitals where conditions are not allowed, a simple biochemical treatment can be adopted as a transitional treatment measure. Then, gradually implement secondary treatment or enhance the treatment effect through the primary treatment process.
If you need to test the various indicators of the wastewater, for medical wastewater, it is very important and cannot be omitted to conduct real-time monitoring of the coliform bacteria in it using the WECT-900 Coliform Bacteria Online Analyzer. Of course, this is only one of the indicators for judging the quality of medical wastewater. There are also some regular ones, such as COD, total phosphorus, total nitrogen, etc., and if using chlorine disinfectants for disinfection, the total residual chlorine content in the water should also be tested.
